Falcons Battle to the Final Out in Memorable Super Regional Run
The 2026 season came to a close for the Folsom Lake College Falcons baseball team after a hard-fought three-game Super Regional series against powerhouse Ohlone College, but not before the Falcons showcased the resilience, competitiveness, and grit that defined an unforgettable year.
Finishing the season with a 31-15 overall record and a 15-9 mark in Big 8 Conference play, the Falcons advanced to the Super Regionals after an impressive postseason push and once again proved they could compete with the best teams in Northern California.
Game one in Fremont saw the Falcons run into one of the state's top pitchers, as Ohlone took a 7-1 victory. Despite the setback, Folsom Lake continued to battle throughout the contest. Asa Martinez doubled and later scored the Falcons' lone run in the sixth inning after an RBI single by Trajan Rogowski. Rogowski also added a stolen base defensively while the Falcons' bullpen combined to limit additional damage late in the game.
Facing elimination the following day, the Falcons responded in championship fashion.
Backed by dominant pitching and timely power hitting, Folsom Lake evened the series with a 3-1 victory. Jake McKowen delivered one of the best postseason starts of the year, striking out 11 batters across six innings, while Andrew Balentine shut the door with a lights-out three-inning save that included six strikeouts and no hits allowed.
Offensively, the Falcons capitalized on the long ball. Asa Martinez launched a two-run homer in the second inning, and Connor Barth added a clutch insurance home run in the eighth. Martinez finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Shane Saunders tripled as part of the Falcons' seven-hit effort.
With the series tied, the decisive game on May 9 delivered an instant classic.
After falling behind 7-1 through six innings, the Falcons mounted a furious comeback that nearly completed one of the most remarkable rallies of the postseason. Folsom Lake scored three runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Dylan Green and an RBI double from Rogowski to cut the deficit to 7-4.
Then came the dramatic eighth inning.
With two runners aboard, Asa Martinez blasted a game-tying three-run home run to even the score at 7-7 and ignite the Falcons dugout. The comeback capped another huge day for Martinez, who finished with three RBIs, while Dylan Green added three RBIs of his own in the contest. Folsom Lake totaled 11 hits in the season finale, with multi-hit performances from Green and Shane Saunders.
Although Ohlone answered with the eventual winning run in the bottom of the eighth, the Falcons continued fighting until the final out, embodying the determination and toughness that carried them throughout the spring.
The Super Regional appearance capped an incredible season for Folsom Lake — one filled with postseason moments, resilience, standout performances, and a team that consistently refused to back down. From clutch playoff wins to dramatic late-game rallies, the Falcons left their mark as one of the top programs in the region and provided countless memorable moments for Falcon fans throughout 2026.
