Falcons Battle to Draw, Then Soar Past American River in 5–1 Rout
After a tense defensive battle ended in a scoreless draw against Santa Rosa, the Folsom Lake College men's soccer team rebounded in emphatic fashion, cruising past American River 5–1 on Tuesday night to cap their regular season with momentum heading into the postseason.
Defensive Duel vs. Santa Rosa (Nov. 7)
Facing a 14–1–3 Santa Rosa squad with one of the conference's top offenses, the Falcons displayed poise and discipline on their home pitch. Both teams battled through a physical, tightly contested 90 minutes that featured limited scoring opportunities.
Folsom Lake's defense held firm, allowing just one shot on goal, while goalkeeper Danny Tejeda recorded a clean sheet with a key save late in the match. Offensively, Garrett Veirs provided the Falcons' best chance, putting one on target in the first half, while Isaac Harrison added another shot as Folsom Lake edged Santa Rosa 2–1 in total attempts.
Despite the stalemate, the result highlighted the Falcons' defensive growth and ability to contain elite opponents — a critical confidence boost as they prepared for their next challenge.
Offensive Explosion vs. American River (Nov. 11)
Four days later, the Falcons unleashed their attacking firepower in a statement win at American River. The first half was nothing short of dominant, with Thualfikar Alaskati leading the charge and notching a hat trick before halftime.
Alaskati opened the scoring early with an assist from Edgar Vega, then doubled the lead moments later on an unassisted strike. Samuel Arnold and Aaron Valenzuela joined the offensive onslaught — Arnold scoring twice and Valenzuela assisting one — as Folsom Lake built a 5–0 cushion before the break.
American River managed a lone response just before halftime, but the Falcons' backline, anchored by Ty Hunter and Edgar Vega, locked things down the rest of the way.
Head coach's staff credited the squad's composure and teamwork for the turnaround after the Santa Rosa draw. "We showed both sides of our game this week — the discipline to defend and the creativity to finish," said the staff postgame. "That's the balance we need heading into playoffs."
