Folsom Lake College's women's basketball team delivered thrilling performances at the Toys for Tots Tournament, securing two decisive wins before falling in a heartbreaking one-point loss to Fresno City College. The Falcons showcased impressive teamwork, stellar defense, and clutch scoring throughout the event.
Game 1: Folsom Lake Outclasses Cerritos (75-16)
Folsom Lake opened the tournament in dominant fashion, routing Cerritos College in a 75-16 blowout. The Falcons' defense stifled Cerritos, holding them to just 12.5% shooting from the field and 5.9% from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Jadyn Weaver led the way, scoring 15 points, including a perfect 5-of-7 from three-point range. Center Athena Brombacher added 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, showcasing her versatility.
The Falcons started strong, outscoring Cerritos 21-3 in the first quarter and never looking back. By halftime, Folsom Lake held a commanding 41-7 lead, allowing reserves to gain valuable court time in the second half.
Game 2: Falcons Defeat Allan Hancock (67-54)
Folsom Lake faced stiffer competition in their second game but emerged victorious against tournament hosts Allan Hancock College. Forward Athena Brombacher dominated in the paint, finishing with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Gianna Darte added 10 points, hitting two critical three-pointers to extend Folsom Lake's lead in the second quarter.
The Falcons maintained control throughout, building a double-digit lead by halftime (34-25). Despite a late fourth-quarter push by Allan Hancock, Folsom Lake's depth and composure secured the win. Guard Lexi Peters contributed 9 points and a tournament-high 8 assists, while Leilani Edinburgh chipped in 7 points and 6 assists.
Game 3: Nail-Biter Loss to Fresno City (72-71)
In a dramatic finale, Folsom Lake fell just short against Fresno City College in a 72-71 thriller. The Falcons led for most of the game, thanks to a balanced offensive attack and strong third-quarter performance.
Sophomore Leilani Edinburgh was the standout, pouring in 18 points, including 5 clutch free throws. Lexi Peters added 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Brombacher recorded 13 points and 7 boards.
However, Fresno's Devin Miller stole the show, scoring 39 points and hitting eight three-pointers. The Rams surged in the fourth quarter, outscoring Folsom Lake 24-10 to snatch the victory. Despite their best efforts, including a potential game-winning possession in the final seconds, the Falcons couldn't convert.
