Folsom Lake Dominates Crossover Tournament with Back-to-Back Wins

Folsom Lake College women's basketball made a statement over the weekend, defending their home court with two commanding victories in the Crossover Tournament. The Falcons outlasted Butte College 75–68 on Friday before overwhelming San Mateo 98–54 on Saturday, closing the event unbeaten and showcasing both resilience and firepower.

Falcons Grind Out Win Over Butte

Folsom Lake set the tone early in Friday's opener, exploding for a 24–9 lead in the first quarter behind hot perimeter shooting and smothering defense. Though Butte clawed back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits at halftime, the Falcons stayed composed and maintained control through all four quarters.

Sophomore guard Lexi Peters led the way with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting, including four three-pointers. Ursula Chen was steady and efficient inside, scoring 17 points and grabbing six rebounds, while Nyah Fortune added 14 points, four assists, and four steals in a well-rounded performance.

Despite Butte's late push—fueled by a 15-point effort—the Falcons' balance and execution down the stretch sealed the 75–68 win. Folsom Lake shot an impressive 47% from the field and 62.5% from beyond the arc, while also outrebounding Butte 35–34.

Offensive Explosion Sinks San Mateo

Less than 24 hours later, Folsom Lake returned to the court and put on an offensive clinic. The Falcons jumped out to a 27–12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, pouring in 35 points in the second to take a commanding 62–28 lead at halftime.

The team shot a blistering 64.4% from the floor and 70.6% from three-point range, with every rotation player contributing to the scoring. Peters once again led the way with 22 points and seven assists, while Fortune followed with 15 points and four triples.

Freshman Ava Schraeder provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds, and Sammy Schuler added 10 points and three assists. The Falcons also dished out 29 assists as a team, a season-high, emphasizing their unselfish play.

San Mateo struggled to keep pace, shooting just 33% from the field and 16% from three. The Falcons' defensive pressure forced 19 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to just eight points in the final quarter.

Weekend Takeaways

Through two games, Folsom Lake averaged 86.5 points per game while allowing just 61, marking a dominant showing on both ends of the court. Peters and Fortune emerged as a potent backcourt duo, while Chen continued to anchor the paint with steady efficiency.

The Falcons' balanced attack, commitment to defense, and chemistry are clear signs that this team is finding its stride early in the season.

Folsom Lake will look to carry that momentum into the next matchup as they continue to build on a strong start to the 2025–26 campaign.
