Falcons Fly Past ARC, Then Fall Just Short in Delta Nail-Biter

The Folsom Lake women's basketball team put together a week that showcased both their explosive potential and their grit, blowing out American River on the road before battling San Joaquin Delta down to the final possession in a one-point heartbreaker at home.

Folsom Lake wasted absolutely no time asserting control against American River, jumping out to a 29–8 first-quarter lead and never looking back. The Falcons shot a scorching 56.5% from the field and buried 10 three-pointers in a dominant wire-to-wire performance.

Emily Bowman was unstoppable inside, pouring in a game-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding four rebounds. The Falcons' backcourt also shined, led by Ursula Chen, who knocked down three triples on her way to 13 points.

Nyah Fortune provided a spark from deep with 10 points, including two three-pointers, while Lexi Peters and Jada Tupou each added 8 points and combined for 7 assists and 6 steals, setting the tone defensively.

Folsom Lake's depth was on full display as well. Kelis Powell stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Ava Schraeder chipped in 9 points while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. The Falcons forced 16 turnovers and turned defense into offense all night, cruising to one of their most complete wins of the season.

Four days later, the Falcons found themselves on the opposite end of the emotional spectrum in a thriller against San Joaquin Delta. After falling behind early, Folsom Lake clawed back and traded blows down the stretch, ultimately coming up just one point shy in a 75–74 finish.

Lexi Peters delivered a phenomenal all-around performance, leading all Falcons with 26 points, including 5-of-6 from three-point range, while also handing out 8 assists and grabbing 7 rebounds. Jada Tupou was relentless attacking the basket, scoring 18 points and adding 4 assists and 3 steals.

Despite a tough shooting night, Nyah Fortune contributed in other ways with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and a block, while Jasmine Clee added 9 points and steady guard play. Ursula Chen and Kelis Powell combined for 14 points, with Powell hitting two clutch threes to keep the Falcons within striking distance late.

Folsom Lake shot an impressive 83.3% from the free-throw line and won the assist battle, but Delta's hot start and a late surge proved just enough to edge the Falcons in a game that came down to the final moments.

Despite the narrow loss to Delta, the Falcons showed exactly who they are: a deep, fast, and dangerous team capable of blowing opponents out or grinding through a heavyweight fight. If this stretch was any indication, Folsom Lake is built for a strong run as conference play continues.
