Falcons Split Week: Triumph Over Diablo Valley, Fall at Sierra

The Folsom Lake College women's volleyball team put together a strong showing this past week, picking up their first Big 8 Conference victory against Diablo Valley before running into a tough road test at Sierra.

Falcons Defend Home Court Against Diablo Valley

On September 24, the Falcons secured a 3–1 home win over Diablo Valley (25–22, 24–26, 25–12, 25–15), improving their overall record to 7–10 and 1–2 in Big 8 play.

The Falcons' offense found its rhythm after a tight opening two sets. Outside hitter Erin Ayers led the charge with 16 kills on 48 swings, while also adding four service aces to finish with a match-high 20 points. She received solid support from Ella Triplett, who added six kills and two aces, and Olivia Kay, who chipped in four kills, three aces, and 11 digs.

Setter Lola Quintanar directed the offense with 31 assists while anchoring the defense with 11 digs. Defensively, libero Ava Pham covered the back row with 12 digs, and Ginger Scheidt contributed both behind the service line and in coverage.

After splitting the first two sets, Folsom Lake surged ahead with dominant third and fourth sets, hitting .212 and .306 respectively, to seal the victory.

Road Struggles at Sierra

Two nights later, the Falcons traveled to Sierra on September 26, where they fell in straight sets (23–25, 18–25, 16–25). Despite flashes of fight, Folsom Lake couldn't match Sierra's balance and efficiency.

Once again, Ayers was the offensive leader, recording 10 kills and 12 digs, while Jadyn Alexander added six kills on 19 attempts. Triplett tallied four kills and an ace, and Quintanar contributed 17 assists and 17 digs, showcasing her all-around playmaking ability. Libero Pham turned in a standout defensive performance with 20 digs and three aces from the service line.

However, as a team, the Falcons struggled to sustain offensive momentum, finishing with just a .056 hitting percentage across the match.
