Modesto Overpowers Folsom Lake 123-91 in High-Scoring Matchup

Folsom Lake College faced a formidable challenge against Modesto Junior College on January 24, falling 123-91 to the conference-leading Pirates. Despite the loss, the Falcons showcased their offensive prowess, with standout performances from multiple players in an entertaining, high-scoring affair.

Pirates Set the Pace Early

The undefeated Modesto Pirates, boasting an 18-3 overall record and a perfect 9-0 in conference play, asserted their dominance right from the start. They outscored the Falcons 56-41 in the first half, utilizing their high-pressure defense and fast-paced offense to create a significant early lead.

The Pirates' depth and efficiency were on full display as they consistently found ways to break down the Falcons' defense, leaving Folsom Lake scrambling to keep up.

Falcons' Offensive Firepower

While the Falcons ultimately couldn't match Modesto's intensity, their offensive efforts were impressive. Folsom Lake shot an efficient 50.7% from the field and an impressive 44.8% from beyond the arc, with multiple players contributing in double figures.

  • Logan Rexford led the Falcons with 19 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 3-of-7 from deep while adding five assists.
  • Micah Hobson matched Rexford's output with 19 points of his own, including 3-of-5 from three-point range.
  • Miko Bear delivered a balanced performance with 17 points and three rebounds, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor.
  • Colin Billy anchored the team on the boards with seven rebounds, adding 14 points and four assists.

The Falcons' bench also provided a spark, with Mikey Simonyan chipping in 10 points in just 22 minutes of action.

Second-Half Surge Falls Short

Folsom Lake attempted to mount a comeback in the second half but couldn't contain Modesto's relentless attack. The Pirates continued to push the pace, scoring 67 points in the final 20 minutes and effectively neutralizing any momentum the Falcons tried to build.

Coach's Perspective

"We ran into an incredibly talented team tonight," said the Falcons' head coach. "Modesto is undefeated in the conference for a reason. But I'm proud of how our team kept fighting and stuck to our game plan offensively. We'll learn from this and be better moving forward."

Looking Ahead

The Falcons, now 7-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play, will aim to regroup and focus on defensive adjustments as they prepare for their next opponent. With their offensive capabilities, Folsom Lake has the tools to compete, but tightening up on the defensive end will be key to turning close games into victories.

Despite the loss, the Falcons showed flashes of potential and resilience, providing hope for a strong finish to the season.
